Even those I love the Mario series, I have to say The Legend Of Zelda series does have a better story line and music.

Even those I love the Mario series, I have to say The Legend Of Zelda series does have a better story line and music. So I guess the longevity, gameplay, and level design Mario has is void. That's just because they were extremely shitty. It's still part of the series. Even if I included the Mario spin-offs, along with Mario Party, the overall quality would still be better than the overall LOZ games.

Now, on that note, I also want to point out that the Legend of Zelda CD-i crap-nuts aren't that well known AT ALL due to their absolute suck (and that the Philips CD-i wasn't too well-known as well). I swear to you, if you were to ask a non-gamer what "Wand of Gamelon" is, the odds are against them saying "Some piece of crap CD-i Zelda game." They would likely not even know what you're talking about. If you were to ask them what "Super Mario Land" (Mario's obscure game) is, the odds are significantly increased (though still against) that they will say "The game Princess Daisy comes from." Technically, the CD-i games never really got much more press than what we're giving them here.

The CD-i games are like fangames, they use Nintendo's characters but aren't a part of the official series.

D.A.N., if you're going to count Zelda games that weren't made by Nintendo, then you must also factor into your equations the Mario games that Nintendo was not involved with. I'm of course talking about games like Mario Teaches Typing, Mario is Missing, Mario Fundamentals, and Hudson's unabashadly shameful PC port of Super Mario Bros. All of those are unmistakably terrible games, on par with or perhaps even past that of the CD-i Zelda games. My point here is that you can't judge one series on its worst while judging another on its best. It may be unbiased, but it's also unfair.
Now, I may be biased a little bit, as I prefer RPG's to most other game types, but I've always enjoyed Zelda games a little more than Mario games. I like the music score in Zelda better in particular. Mario's is nice, but after a while it all feels recycled. The gameplay is a little more suited to my style as well, so I vote for Zelda.

But see, if you asked a non-gamer what Zelda was in general, they wouldn't know. If you asked them what Mario is, that's a different story.
Calling them fangames is incredibly inaccurate.
I think you misread. I wasn't holding CD-I Zeldas against Super Mario Bros 3 and judging it like that. I was simply factoring in the series with the most overall flaws. Mind you all the Mario games you mentioned are superior to the CD-I Zeldas.
If that's not bias I don't know what is!
Zelda runs more of the same gameplay elements than Mario ever will. OOT, MM, WW, and TP are all generally running the same thing with about a 10% increase in unique gameplay. Mario adds new elements to the platforming style every single time.

I wasn't referring to gameplay.

The majority of Zelda and Mario's soundtrack is recycled themes simply with different instruments. The only time they have new themes is for new areas in the games. At the same time, Zelda's will still always sound pretty similar. Example: The Goron area has lots of drums.
