No "No Preference" button? Sheesh.
I prefer the set-up of the Super Mario control scheme, but Zelda has a much more relaxed feel to it. My option always depends on my musical tastes. If I feel like techno, I'll turn on the Prodigy and a Mario game, if I feel like folk, I pull out a Zelda game and a Bob Dylan CD.
Right now, I'd vote Zelda, as it's exam week and I'm REALLY in need of the relaxing that a Zelda game gives. I won't vote simply because there's no "No Preference," though.

They can't be compared easily, since their genres are different.
I enjoy Mario platformers a lot (every first Mario game for a Nintendo system is like a must-play for me and I try to find everything in them), and TLoZ games have that thing that makes me call them "beautiful" (I guess it's the epicness and the amazing plots they have).
Mario = "skills", Zelda = "tale". I was more of a "skills" person in the past, but now I lean towards "tale" more (hence my vote).

That's just what people say who don't know how to compare different genres of games.
Mario is by far the better, less flawed series. Zelda is near perfect, don't get me wrong. But one thing about the Legend of Zelda series will always keep it from being the best series of all time rather than just being one of the best.
That is the CD-I games. There are about four, maybe five of them. One even starring Zelda. As interesting as that sounds the games were horrible, and were ran on watered down engines that The Adventure of Link game ran on. The voice acting was horrible and destroyed most of my liking for Link, and the graphics looked like turds with legs.
Mario is superior. I don't count sports games in the Mario series, only the 2D/3D Platformers and his RPG outings.

There are three CD-I games. Two of them starred Zelda. They were made without the involvement of Nintendo and are NOT considered canon to the Zelda series.
If you're going to dismiss the Mario Sports titles, why not dismiss the Zelda CD-I games? That's like using the bad of one series agaisnt it, and dismissing the bad of another simply because you favor it.

Don't be such a fool. It's under the name, it's part of the series. Not being developed by the same people doesn't mean it's not part of the series. By that knowledge Super Smash Bros Brawl isn't part of the Super Smash Bros series because it isn't developed by Hal. Hahaha. XD Moron. Mario Sports is a spin off. You'd have been better off telling me to dismiss the RPG titles which even then would still hold Mario in higher regard. Telling me I favor something is pretty much the stupidest thing a person could do. Coming from someone who's seen me post and hasn't realized I come from a completely unbiased point after all this time just makes you look quite foolish.

CD-I Zelda wasn't even published by Nintendo oO SSBB is published by Nintendo, as was it's predecessors. No, you're wrong. You may think you're unbiased, I've thought I was unbiased. It's not true. Whether you know it or not, you're biased.

Nintendo gave them the rights, which makes it part of the series.
False. You and I are two very different people. I call it right down the middle and for your information I enjoy Zelda more than I enjoy Mario. That doesn't mean it's better. Just because I like something better doesn't mean that it is.

That's just what people say who don't know how to compare different genres of games. x-D Not to argue, but I know of a better way than seeking flawed particular games (wasn't CD-I obscured at that time by SNES, SEGA Genesis, SEGA CD, and 3DO?) and that's to rate the series overall by graphics, sound, control, etc., probably between contemporary games of both series. D.A.N. knows how to do that; I've known him for a long time. Zelda has had better music, Mario has had better replay value for example. Another thing that makes me value Zelda more is that there are fewer games of the series per system. My first post was clearly subjective. It's hard for me to compare them because I like them both in their own ways. Hell, I've been a fan of them since way before I could discriminate the ownership of diverse game series or even what "ownership" meant (I used to think Bomberman was Nintendo and Pac-Man was Atari; sue me).

DAN, I don't mean to enter an argument that I have nothing to do with, but...
Wand of Gamelon
Faces of Evil
Zelda's Adventure
All three of the CD-i games were non-canonical according to Nintendo. It's not fair to dismiss Mario Spin-offs but not the Zelda CD-i games.
Of course, I'm quoting Wikipedia here....
