Weird! It's really original, but is it a truly good idea?

It is. Fans have awaited for this time for more than one decade . The official site is here. And it seems Miyamoto is involved in this game as seen here. And you guys know what can happen with the SSB series when a character or its creator is liked by Miyamoto ;D.

No offense, but, it might be an excellent April Fools joke. Why? Because April Fools Day is almost here, and there are several large things going on, like the LEGO Batman video game and NiGHTS 2. They are probably also April Fools jokes. I still remember the gPod, Zelda: The Wind Waker (Twilight Princess style), and a Virtual Boy style GBA SP with Virtual Boy games in GBA carts.

I thought about that, but for two things.
1) It's still March. 2) Both Sega and Nintendo are saying this.
It is likely that it's just another Sonic Hoax, but it's just as likely to be real. All I can say is this: Let's wait this one out.

If it's a joke, then nobody can say it's not a good one! And sponsored by Sega themselves, since it's hosted within their site's domain. Also by Nintendo themselves. Miyamoto already said he likes Sonic, and it was not near April. That will make me not feel too stupid about such an unusual team-up idea in case it's fake. The people that are editting the Wikipedia article for this game are also discussing its veracity. The ones arguing that it could be real are saying convincing reasons.

This can't be a joke. You want to know why? They've used the Olympics logo and liscense. Getting permission to use a corporate logo isn't an easy task, especially with something as huge as the Olympics. And if they used it without permission, they would get so much hell for it that they might even get put out of business. Plus, what with all of the multiple interviews, press releases and whatnot, this is getting way too big to be just a joke. Also, there's a new interview on IGN about it. wii.ign.com/articles/776/776878p1.htmlFrikkin' IGN won't stop asking about SSBB. >_< But I do like the prospect of a judo event.

Also, I doubt that the game's gonna be called "Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games." The Olympics people may have given them the license, but the name is likely to become something shorter like "Superstar Olympics."
Technically, HT, if the Olympics people are in on the joke, then all'd be clear, as it would be if Sega and Nintendo were making something on the license without The Crossover. I may be wrong here, but if the license is owned, I'm under the impression that they'd be able to make the hoax.

I was reading some of the blog and post links at the bottom and got me thinking about some things..
How can Sonic do the swimming events? Knuckles, Tails, Cream and Rouge are the only Sonic characters who can swim.
How the hell is Mario, or anyone besides Koopa the Quick, going to keep up with anyone in the Sonic crew aside from Big the Cat (Who, I'm afraid I must admit, I want to appear.)
Um, Tails can fly... so can Rouge... so can Cream... so can Peach and Yoshi (somewhat) what good are hurdles and long jump events?
Another thing I noticed was somebody said that it's like a Mario sports game with Sonic slapped in it. This is almost like Mario Kart with Pac-Man slapped in it. Another company works with Mario, and they just slap their characters right in.

Are spin-offs ever pure in that? You gotta remember, Wario jumps as high as Luigi in the Mario Party games, and that'd be clearly impossible given Wario's weight and Luigi's jumping skill. Why shouldn't Sonic be able to swim? Or Tails not allowed to fly? Or Mario keep up with Sonic? It's a spin-off. And if you look at it, either series could be the cameo. If you're looking at it from a Sega fan's point of view, Mario's got the cameo. From a Nintendo fan's, it's Sonic. This isn't just one character, and I bet it'll be equal in sponsorship. Here's an example character list (that may or may not happen.) Mario series | Sonic series | Mario | Sonic | Luigi | Knuckles | Yoshi | Tails | Bowser | Eggman | DK | Shadow | Toad | Cream | Peach | Amy | Wario | Rouge |
Neither series would be represented more or less than the other. You couldn't mark it as either a Mario game or a Sonic game. Just a Mario & Sonic game ('cause you know this would get it's own series.)

I'm sure that they'll balance it all out between the characters. It's not like they'll instantly give characters unfair advantages in one event or the other, just because of what abilities they have. Well, to be fair, I think it's a little early to say that it'll be slapped together. I mean, they just announced that it's going to be made. Let's wait a couple months before we judge how it might turn out.

*Smacks Shrikes for forgetting one important bit of info* ....Big isn't on your list ^_^ No, that's not so important. Big the Cat equates more to Daisy (Daisy is connected to Peach and Toad, but isn't a member of the main characters in the series, the "Big 8," similar to Big's connections to Amy and Cream.)
