Basically been playing Path of Radiance way too frieking much and then reading Shrike's game all gave me an idea. A Tactical RPG with Pokemon elements. It'll bring a new style to Pokemon, and bring Pokemon to a somewhat-used style.
The main plot of the game is that Giovanni has returned, complete with the Rockets. But they aren't simply out to steal Pokemon, it's total conquest for control of the entire Pokemon League.
The game also carries two parties, Trainers and Pokemon. While it's important to make sure your Pokemon don't faint, it's also important to keep your Trainer's safe, as losing them means they're outta the party for the remainder of the game AND all the Pokemon they had on the field will now return to their Pokeballs. It is important to organize your party well before each battle, keeping in mind that you can use a total of three Trainers and each of them can use six Pokemon.
Some Trainers can only use specific Pokemon types, for instance Misty can only capture Water Pokemon while Brock can only use Rock and Ground types.
Trainer Members:
Smoke - Smoke is the hero, and unlike most Trainer Heroes, his name is locked. He is also 14 years of age, as opposed to ten, and already a pokemon trainer at the start of the game. His three starters are Rattata, Pidgey and Charmander. Smoke's journey begins when he rescues Professor Oak from Team Rocket, and is then declared an enemy of the entire Rocket organization.
Mist - No, I did NOT take the name from Ike's sister >_>; I just figured "Smoke and Mist." Anyways, Mist is Smoke's neighbor and love-interest through-out the game. She specializes in aerial Pokemon, and starts her party with a Pidgey and a Sparrow.
Professor Oak - Professor Oak finally leaves his lab, this time as the third member of your party. He battles with Normal type Pokemon. He joins Smoke and Mist to stop Team Rocket. His starting team is Rattata and Jigglypuff.
Sector - Sector is a bug-specialist. He's found in Veridian Forest under attack by the Rockets and with only his freshly caught Caterpie as defense. After being rescued, the young Bugman joins the team and quickly becomes Smoke's best friend.
Brock - the Earth specialist returns! When he's found his gym is not under attack and Smoke decides to take a break from Rocket-Rumbling and earn a Gym Badge. Later in the game you return to Pewter only to find the Gym in ruins, and Brock badly wounded, kneeling amongst the rubble. He joins you after being healed by Nurse Cheer.
Nurse Cheer - Nurse Cheer runs the Pokemon Center in Pewter, and is the current object of Brock's desire. A distress signal is sent from the Cerulean Center to the Pewter one, and Cheer joins the party to deliver the necessary medecines. She battles with Normal type pokemon, and starts with two Chanseys.
Misty - Misty is a water specialist who joins the team after she is beaten in a Gym Battle by Smoke.
Fliare - Fliare is a Dragon Trainer who you aquire as the last canon-story Trainer of Johto. He starts with only Dratini at first, but on the voyages between continents he aquires others. To make-up for the lack of available Dragon Pokemon, Fliare can also use fire-Pokemon.
Mewtwo - Mewtwo is the only Pokemon who is among the Trainer ranks. No, he doesn't battle with Pokemon of his own, but he can use Ten different attacks as opposed to four. He is the final member of the party given to the team as part of the plot, and he joins the team only after several battles through-out the story. You find him just before returning to Johto, during a time when he is on a rampage of revenge, seeking Giovanni.
Those are the Canon-Trainers, but there are others around the game who you will unlock as certain needs are met. After defeating Giovanni you can face-off against Red and if he is defeated he is the first Party-Member for your second play-through.
Gameplay:
Unlike most TRPGs, the game will not shift you from battle-to-battle, instead it will take the Pokemon role and make you journey from place to place on a map. During battles you will be warped to a Stage-Map and the battle will begin. Pokemon, unlike Trainer's, can be reused in later battles if they fall.
Ending: After defeating Giovanni, the group prepares to go their seperate ways. Mewtwo leaves in search of more answers about his past, and Brock and Misty return to their gyms. Sector decides to stay with Smoke and Mist, but Oak and Fliare leave to find un-identified Pokemon across the globe. Cheer hurries off to begin her plans for building the world's first Pokemon Super Center. As Smoke and his two friends begin to leave back for Pallet Town, Lance approaches them, explaining how if it were not for them the entire Pokemon League would be in disorder. Smoke, Mist and Sector all become members of the Elite 4, the only veteran being Lance himself.
