Doctor Doctor, give me--sorry.
Anyways. Dr. Mario is not treated the same way as he was in Melee. Though still playable, Dr. Mario is more like a transformation than a full-on character. The difference? Neither regular nor Dr. Mario can transform into the other during a fight. Instead, selecting Dr. Mario is done by picking Mario and changing his outfit, similarly to how you get Plumber Wario. But unlike Plumber Wario, Dr. Mario has a different move-set from his base, though they are statistical equals.
Name: Dr. Mario
Game: Dr. Mario (Real shock, ain't it?)
Year: 1990
Moves
Up-B: Super Jump Punch
Dr. Mario leaps up, fist first, in a punch that drills opponents in a flurry of coins. You know, like Mario's.
B: Mega Vitamin
Dr. Mario throws a pill. So far, by the way, you'll notice that these moves are EXACTLY the same as in Melee, right? Well, that's the end of it.
Side-B: Injection
Dr. Mario lunges with a needle, injecting nearby foes with a dose of bacterial infection.
Down-B: Pill Blitz
Dr. Mario pulls out two Mega Vitamins and throws them to either side, exploding on contact with anything (except friends.)
Final: Vaccination
Dr. Mario takes a step to the side. He then throws a barrage of Mega Vitamins at the stage. Many of them are dual colored and do nothing but damage, but several of them are solid-colored. If you get hit with a red pill, you are burnt (which means every time you use a Smash, Tilt, or Special attack, you take damage as well.) If you get hit with a blue pill, you are frozen. If you get hit with a yellow pill, you are stunned (more accurately, you are stricken with nausea.)
Taunts
Up-Taunt: Dr. Mario rolls a Mega Vitamin down his arm, throws it in the air, and catches it.
Side-Taunt: Dr. Mario looks at a clipboard, giving the screen a thumbs up.
Down-Taunt: Dr. Mario drops a Mega Vitamin into a pill bottle.
Entrance: Dr. Mario jumps out of his ambulance.
Now, Dr. Mario has a different fighting style from Mario, but that's not to say that Dr. Mario's physical attacks are any better or worse than his plumber counterpart's. For example, while Mario uses an explosive fireball for his Side-C, Dr. Mario's Side-C is Mario's Side-Smash punch from SSB64. The moves operate in the exact same way, but the animation is different. In a more extreme example, Dr. Mario's Up-C, rather than a headbutt, has him toss a Mega Vitamin in the air for a Smash-tastic pill blast. The same applies to his stats, as well.
In Adventure Mode, by the way, you can switch to Dr. Mario before a fight in the exact same way that you switch to ZS Samus, Shiek, and pick one of Red's Pokemon. Just a tip.
