First of all, it is confirmed by Sakurai that certain characters will be axed from Melee. Which characters would it be?
Heres my opinion
It should be:
Pichu- Everyone hates him, he wasn't very good in Melee and has little fanbase. Pichu had no reason for being in Melee other than being a filler character
Roy- Roy has very little fanbase in Japan. The only reason he was in Melee was to promote Fire Emblem 6, which didn't really do well compared to the other Fire Emblems. And him having 'teh ph1re!' doesn't help. Plus, there are better Fire Emblem characters to take his place (ex: Ike, Lyn)
Doctor Mario- Should be a costume for Mario, other than being a whole new character
Characters that deserve to STAY:
Ness Ice Climbers Jigglypuff Mewtwo Ganondorf (with a different moveset) Peach Young Link (Cel Shaded w/ new moveset)

O Rly? Well he's a clone, and we don't need another Mario. I forgot to mention that he should be a costume

I pretty much think Mario's a bitch anyway. Dr. Mario's worse though. So two bitches as one bitch? Wierd.

Watch your mouth! Mario has done good for us. These characters SHOULD be out: Mr. Game and Watch (replaced with Mii) Dr. Mario (replaced with Paper Mario) Young Link (replaced with Cel-Shaded Link) Ice Climbers (replaced with Elite Beat Agents) Jigglypuff (replaced with Manaphy or Red) Yes, I know I left out Pichu. He holds some popularity in Japan. If you hate Pichu, you must hate Tingle.

I'm bored (-_-) Dr. Mario (replaced with Paper Mario) We don't need another Mario, do we? >.> Still, Doc and Paper Mario would more sense as a costume *agrees* Ice Climbers should stay. They have no reason to be cut, since they represent NES games. LOL!!!! Jigglypuff has more popularity than Manaphy and Red combined! She's the second most popular pokemon next to Pikachu. Not to mention her awesome pwnage in Melee Not as much popularity as Pikachu, Mewtwo, Jigglypuff, Lucario, etc.

I'd say:
Pichu: He's a weak character for the game, and as far as representing the Pokemon series, we can do better.
Roy and Marth: Okay. We get it. You're from Japan. But Fire Emblem has come to America now. Ike should replace these two and Ike could just have Marth's identical stats and moves. Lyn could be an original moveset/statistic FE character.
Mr. Game & Watch: For no particular reason.
Young Link: Replace with Wind Waker Link.
Doc should not be cut from Brawl. Anyone who says that doesn't know much. Plain and simple.

Characters that Should Be Cut/Replaced:
Pichu - C'mon guys. PICHU? Let's try for something we can actually USE.
Young Link - Looking for a Wind Waker Link here. The name will still be Young Link.
Roy/Marth - I just... don't like them.
Characters that need new moves:
Falco - Unclone him please
Ganondorf - See Falco
Luigi - See Ganondorf
Young/Celink - See Luigi
Mewtwo - They can do better.
Characters I think should stay that others say should leave:
Ice Climbers Mr. Game and Watch Jigglypuff Dr. Mario

My thoughts are that all the Melee characters SHOULD stay, but as is, certainly not. The clones need a new move-set, especially Young Link, Ganondorf, Pichu, and Falco. Pichu ESPECIALLY needs the edit, since Pichu is stat-wise pathetic AND hurts himself all the time. Young Link need not be turned into Celda Link totally. While, sure, keep the Celda design, he should be graphically modified so that he looks more...3D? Ganondorf and Falco can be done ALOT better. I have an example for them on the home-page. Doc can stay if he can get a new move-set, otherwise, turn him into a costume for Mario.
Now, the two swordsmen. Marth is filling a quota, he's the first ever Fire Emblem Lord. Either Marth or Roy can be updated to not be a clone. I did it on the site, but I'm open for suggestions. I WOULD like to point out in Roy's defense, also, that Roy's first game was Melee. Though he was in the sixth Fire Emblem game, Sword of Seals, this didn't come out until 2002, a year after Melee. Whether that means much or not, I don't know, but I do know that it means at least something. Also, between Marth and Roy, only Roy has the Fire Emblem in Melee, since the Fire Emblem to Marth is a shield, which neither, quite prominently, don't have. Roy's was put in his sword, so he, naturally, is wielding it. Marth has his importance in the series supporting him, Roy has everything else.
Mr. Game and Watch should stay, as well. Mr. Game and Watch is symbolic of the Nintendo handhelds and, after Melee, has wound up cameo'd practically everywhere in Nintendo games. Jigglypuff started in Smash 64, and has become a hardcore ass-kicker in Melee. Jigs' fame, too, should get her a spot in Brawl, since Jigs is the second most famous Pokemon.
Ice Climbers are hard to get rid of. They symbolize the all-but-forgotten NES characters in Melee, they're the ones who brought old-school gamers to the modern world and the new-school gamers to the past.
Mewtwo is fairly good as far as his move-pool goes. However, if he were to be booted up statistically and have Confusion destroyed and Disable moved to the Side-B, plus an offensive/defensive move for the Down-B, he'd be on his way to his real style (the ass-kicker). The A attacks, also, need improvement, since he can't really cover his ass too well.
Luigi's no clone of Mario, Kriven. His B attacks are quite different. His Up-B, the Fire Jump Punch, doesn't get as much horizontal distance and can cause a burn or, if at the right point, a heavy-hit baseball smash, and doesn't combo well. His B attack, the Fireball, doesn't bounce, while Mario's does. All that needs to happen (which did, as could be seen in the trailers) is an increase in Mario's Fireball bounces. The Side-B is WAY different. Seriously. The Down-B is the same, I'll admit. Pretty much, the Mario Bros. are close enough together move-wise to tie them together but distant enough to show they aren't the same. Maybe Luigi should have different A attacks beyond the graphical update, but he's fairly well done.
If two characters of my choice HAD to be booted off the roster, I'd vote on Doc (turned to a Mario costume for the biggest role possible, but Doc regardless) and Pichu (turned into a Pikachu mini-size for the biggest role possible, but Pichu regardless.)

Marth can't be out.
He's VERY important in the series, being the first lord in Fire Emblem ever. He's also the first lord to have the lead role in more than one fire emblem game. And in plus, Marth is pretty much known in America now thanks to Melee.
Also, Marth can NEVER be replaced by Ike. If you've played Path of Radiance, you'll find out that Ike has a very unique fighting style. His sword: Ragnell, can execute long range magic attacks, whereas Marth is more close combat

1) Bringing in a Fire Emblem character that isn't from 20 years ago means it's more recognizable and more appealing.
2) Ike is a Marth clone in the Fire Emblem games. Fits perfectly.

I'd say that, for the site, both could coexist un-cloned. Particularly, I'd love a resubmission of Marth and Roy so that the two could be together on the site without cloning each other, and, even more, Ike could be brought in with the same story.

Characters that should leave:
Pichu:Preeeety obvious. Dr. Mario:Should be a costume.
Characters that need a new moveset:
Falco:He's major enough, but he needs the moveset changed, like the homing launcher for example. Ganondorf:How come he didn't use the sword? He should use that, along with transforming into Ganon and vice-versa. Roy:He doesn't need to be clone.
Characters that should be replaced: Young Link to Cel Shaded Link:People spread rumors about him,but also,he wouldn't be as clony.

I actually think Falco should go >.<. Ok, don't flame me just yet. We all know that the best Starfox choices are Fox, Falco, Wolf and Krystal. 4 characters for one series? Star Fox only had about 5 games, while Metroid has about 3 times the amount (not to mention that Metroid is much popular) and the only Metroid character in Brawl so far So, we need to drop at least one Star Fox character from that list, and the most logical one is Falco because: 1.) He was a clone and shared almost all of Fox's moves 2.) Wolf and Krystal are more important in the series Star Fox is an over-represented series, so Falco's gotta go

Starfox over-repped? HA! They got two characters and two stages. That's it. Pokemon has 4 characters, 2 stages, and a variety of items (albeit under one object). If Starfox is over-repped, then Pokemon's WAY over the margin.
Also, take note: Falco is very popular. He's been around since the start as the Second-in-command for Fox. Wolf didn't come in until SF64 as a rival, and Krystal didn't show up until much later still.
