Name: Puzzle Bobble
Game: Puzzle Bobble '99/Bust-A-Move '99
Series: Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move
Year: 1999
System: Nintendo64
Copyright: Taito
Screen Shot:
Puzzle Bobble is a strange stage, set up like the game it's named after. As the battle rages on, two characters from Puzzle Bobble will appear to play against each other. Depending on the character on the right, the BG will change (for instance, Bubblon has a jungle.) The Puzzle Bobble match will continue until one AI beats the other, then two more characters are selected to play each other. Bubblon, Bobblun, Twinkle, Musashi, Prettio, Marina, Jack, Luna-Luna, Sonic Blast Man, Debblun, Drunk, Paya-Paya and Otama are the characters seen on this stage. Paya-Paya and Otama start off as secret challengers that only appear in the mini-select screen after they are seen in the BG of the stage at least once. It's kinduv like an unlockable add-on for playing the stage. Whether Paya and Otami appear in the BG to unlock depends on how many times you Brawl on the stage. 15 Brawls unlocks Paya and 30 unlocks Otama.
We've got these various bubble colors: Blue, Yellow, Green, Red, Purple, White, Dark Gray, and Orange. These are blasted to the top of the screen(s) by the characters below. Colliding with a moving bubble damages you, and some colors have status damage:
Blue: Freeze
Yellow: Electricity
Red: Frie
Purple: Darkness
When a chain of bubbles pops, a character can be caught in the explosion. Regardless of the colors, the character will recieve massive damage.
You may have noticed that the stage has walls. Well, these walls are bypassable, the only unaccessable place on the stage is the container in which Bubblun and his challenger are held. The walls are simply like Luigi's Mansion only indestructable. You may also stand ontop of the stage, provided bubbles are sticking to the cieling. This means you're actually standing on the bubbles, NOT the cieling. The bubbles end up providing some interesting platforms because of this.
