After playing Yoshi Topsy Turvy, and after seeing videos of Mario Galaxy and Super Paper Mario, I've noticed that Nintendo likes playing with gravity. That's why I've decided to submit this stage. It is quite original, and you may think it's actually too original. Anyways, I'm going to try, and let's see what feedback I get...
[glow=red,2,300]Stage[/glow]
Name: Raven Moon
Region: In orbit
From: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Year: 1995
System: SNES
[glow=red,2,300]Picture[/glow]
[glow=red,2,300]Map[/glow]
Made in order to show the size of the characters. This is a fight starring Yoshi, Kirby and Paula.
[glow=red,2,300]Video[/glow]
Okay, the description of this stage is amazingly hard to do, and everything is hard to explain if you haven't played any of the games listed above. This video thus seems necessary. Click here and watch from 4:56 to 5:38. Pay especially attention to how Raphael the Raven moves around the planet.
[glow=red,2,300]Description[/glow]
The Mushroom Planet is orbited by two moons: In Paper Mario TTYD, Mario was shot to the large moon to reach the X-Naut Fortress and the last Crystal Star. In Yoshi's Island, Yoshi and Baby Mario were kicked to the small moon, where they had to fight Raphael the Raven. This submission concerns the latter.
The stage is like on the picture. Moon is extremely dense for its size, having gravity similar to the planet's. It means that you can walk everywhere (above, below, or on the sides of the moon) without falling, like in Mario Galaxy. Because of the gravity, if you jump, you will fall back onto the moon. You can only KO your opponents by hitting hard and knocking them offscreen.
Wherever you are on the stage, the controls are still the same. Actually, if you are standing upside down, below the moon, tilting the analog to the right will make you walk to the left (you can circle around the moon endlessly if you keep tilting the analog in the same direction). This system makes the fight much harder at the beginning, but also really funny and puzzling.
There are four small wooden pillars, as you can see on the pictures, that can be used as tiny platforms. Hitting one of these pillars from above will bury it into the ground, making it useless.
Actually, burying a pillar causes another one to pop out from the ground, as you could see in the video.
In the background, you can see the Kappa Mountain (the mountain located on Yoshi's Island) whose top is wrapped in thick white clouds, as well as Raphael Raven's castle. Raphael Raven himself can sometimes be seen flying in the background, looking around. There is a Goonie-shaped constellation in the sky full of stars.
And now, an interesting and funny cameo. In SMW2:YI, when Raphael Raven was defeated, he was smashed into the space, and disappeared in a burst of stars that formed a Raphael-shaped constellation. In this stage, if you manage to star-KO an opponent, he will disappear in the far sky, creating a constellation shaped like himself. This constellation vanishes after a while.
