Name: Arctic Bay
Game: WaveRace: Blue Storm, 2001
BG Music:
Glacier Coast (WaveRace 64)
Alright, so I decided WaveRace needed some representation. So I chose one of my favorite Blue Storm levels, since a character may not work (though I'm still working on trying to make Ryota and Akari suitable.)
So, Arctic Bay takes place on floating chunks of ice and the buoys (which even in WaveRace were large enough for the characters to at least balance on.) Buoys are interesting platforms, when you jump on them they will sink into the water a bit and bob around. The waves can also cause the buoys to tip and turn, evern tossing players or tipping overs in harsher conditions. The boat is NOT a platform, but is simply in the background. A giant connection of ice is on the left side of the screen, making flat ground to fight on. Occasionally whales will rise up and make short-lived platforms. These same whales will also jump over perminant platforms damaging players that they hit. Also, the racers of Blue Storm (with the exception of any currently smashing) will race from left-to-right damaging players.
The weather is significant in this stage, and though the general land is always snow-covered, the wind can change. There are sunny, overcast, rainy and lightning weather conditions. During the sunny weather, nothing spectacular and the water remains still. Overcast comes with some wind, creating slight waves that gently rock the buoys and the water becomes a little foggy. During the rainy season, raindrops appear on-screen (just like in WaveRace) obscuring view but still completely seeable. The waves during rainy weather are strong and can greatly tip the buoy, knocking players off, this weather also has foggy waters. And finally, the stormy weather. The waters cannot be seen through at all, which means players who fall in are lost from sight. The waves are so powerful that they can top the buoys clean over and upside-down and drag players off the ice platforms.
