Name: Hammer Bro. (Hammer Brother)
Game: Super Mario Bros.
Series: Mario (Mushroom)
The Hammer Brothers are a high-ranking set in Bowser's army. The brothers have often hindred Mario's progress much more then any of Mario's other soldiers, and it is probably that the rank "Hammer Brother" is equal to the rank "General." Generally considered a "common enemy" the Hammer Brother is actually far more then that, usually appearing as a mini-boss in the RPGs and in SMB3, a special map event. HB has been playable in several spin-offs, and is among the most recognizable of the Mario franchise foes.
Stats:
Speed: 5/10
Strength: 8/10
Size: 4/10
Weight: 3/10
Jump: 5/10
Fall: 6/10
Traction: 4/10
Hammer Brother is a stronger yet lighter player, who has unique stats that create for interesting gameplay. Oh, I forgot to mention, HB is going solo this time, only one of the brothers.
SPECIAL ATTACKS
Up B: Amazin' Flyin' Bricks - Hammer Bro. had a special force invading Dinosaur Land in Super Mario World. These forces were the Amazin' Flyin' Hammer Bros. that flew around on silver-colored bricks with wings, raining hammers down upon Mario. HB's cousins have lent him a pair of the flying bricks for use in Melee, and he'll use them to recover. The bricks appear beneath our falling friend, and lift him upwards depending on which direction the joystick was tilted in at the time Up and B were pressed (left to tilt left, right to tilt right, straight to go straight.) The direction can be changed slightly once in the air. As Hammer Bro. rises many hammers will rain downward onto foes below. At the highest point possible, the blocks will tire and begin to plummet, Hammer Bro. doesn't activate Useless Mode however. The hammer-flinging Koopa can leap off his blocks at any point from their creation to their destruction, however he cannot summon the blocks again for several instances or until he contacts another object.
B: Hammer Time - In classic Hammer Bro. style, HB tosses a hammer in an upwards arc at his foes. His hammers are powerful, and cause a good deal of damage and usually knock the enemy down. If you press B fast enough, you can throw up to five hammers, pressing B fast enough for a sixth time is a bit difficult but rewarding. A golden Hammer Bro. hammer will be launched from the Koopa's yellow fingertips with this sixth tap. The golden hammer will deal a great amount of damage and bury enemies into the ground.
Smash B: Super Sledge - Not exactly a sledge hammer, this attack resembles one seen in Mario Strikers Charged. Hammer Bro. somersault jumps into the air a bit, pulling out a MASSIVE hammer as he does. He pauses in mid air, and slams this gigantic hammer into the ground. The hammer in his Smash counterpart is scaled down from it's Striker's origin.
Down B: Musicbox - The Musicbox was an item in SMB3 that put Hammer Bros. and their cousins to sleep, allowing Mario to sneak by. It seems as though the tables have turned, Hammer Bro. now uses this Musicbox to put HIS foes to sleep. Tapping the B button repeatedly while holding down will cause Hammer Bro. to pull out the Musicbox and play it until you stop pressing Down B. The longer it's played, however, the weaker the box's sound gets, until eventually the muffled music becomes uselessly weak and the box itself explodes from overuse, sending Hammer Bro. into a slumber. While the box is cranked, however, it emits music-notes that put foes to sleep, very similarly to Jigglypuff's sing attack, though performed differently.
Final Smash: Brother Arsenal - Hammer Brothers other cousins have lent him a few things before he set out. Previously we saw he borrowed the flying bricks, now we see he's borrowed a few other things, including his oldest brothers size. Transforming into none-other then a large Sledge Brother inspired form, Hammer Bro. becomes heavy and flinch-proof. His special attacks remain but are much more powerful, and his A attacks are now also special attacks!
Up A: Around-The-World - The long-lost cousins, the Yo Bros. are even lending their support. The Up A attack allows Hammer Bro. to use the two Yo-Yo's used by the Yo Bros. Once the initial "around-the-world" is completed, Hammer Bro. can continue using the Yo-Yo's in various Shiek-Yo-Yo inspired fashions.
A: Great Balls of Fire - Hammer Bro. isn't borrowing this from Mario, not directly anyway. In an attempt to discover why Bowser failed the first time, he ordered a couple of his troops to assess the situation. They came up with Mario's Fireballs being responsible for the King Koopas defeat. Super Elite Koopas were selected to become the Fireball Bros. While the test wasn't a success, the Fireball Bros. are still a member of the Koopa Elite Core. They've lent their fireballs to Hammer Bro. These fireballs can be launched much more rapidly then Marios, where he can shoot one, the Hammer Bro. can shoot four.
Smash A: Backtrack Boomerang - To assure victory, Bowser gave his elite core another weapon, one which Mario had no acess to: boomerangs. The Boomerang Bros. lend their boomerangs to Hammer Bro. here. He can throw two boomerangs by pressing side and A very quickly. Not exactly a clone of Link's boomerangs either, these ones do not follow their caster, but return in a straight line and will simply miss if the Hammer Bro. changes his location.
Down A: Sumo Stomp - Much more useful on elevated platforms, though the shaking ground will quake foes temporarily immobile. Sledge Hammer Bro. (this upgraded state) borrows the special technique of the Sumo Bros., the Amazin' Flyin' Hammer Bros. closest allies. Stomping the ground will cause a lightning bolt to drop from the bottom of the platform. This lightning bolt, if it contacts the ground, will cause the ground to explode in chains of fire that go off in both directions. If a foe is hit, the foe explodes in fire themselves, and they better hope they're above ground too, because they'll go rocketing around.
Entrance: Hammer Bro. hops out of a warp pipe. In a display of his slightly show-offy nature, he performs a somersault as he leaps from the pipe.
Taunt: Crosses his arms and smirks confidently.
Alternate Costumes and Pallettes:
Fire Bro.:
Black armor with red and oragne skin.
SMB3 Boomerang Bro.:
Gray skin with black armor.
Paper Hammer Bro.:
Not paper. Our Hammer Bro. borrows the helmet and mallets of this guy and brings them to 3D life!
