Woah, hold on a second. Yeah, I'm talking Caterpie, but just chill. It ain't just Mr. Pillar. I got to thinking, the Pokemon games are all about evolution right? RIGHT! Now, we've already got Shrike's Eevee goin on for that, why do we need another evolver? Because of how this is gonna work. You see, in real life the most well-known form of "evolution" is indeed, the caterpillar. Hence my influenced decision. Caterpie here will represent the natural level-up form of evolving, as opposed to stones.
Evolving is done over time. By damaging your foe more, you'll gain more EXP and begin to evolve. Caterpie into Metapod, and Metapod into Butterfree. When evolving, the pokemon will begin to glow white. The evolution can be CANCELLED at this point and you will remain as your current form until you deal enough damage again. The Down Taunt reverts Butterfree into Caterpie.
[glow=green,2,300]CATERPIE[/glow]
Stats:
Speed: 4/10
Strength: 3/10
Jump: 3/10
Fall: 3/10
Weight: 2/10
Height: 2/10
Traction: 5/10
Taunt Up: Does a little aerial spin and cheers happily.
Taunt: Makes a determined face and growls cutely but menacing.
Taunt Down: Shakes his head "no" meaning "No Evolve."
Caterpie is a bit screwed as far as stats go, but that's why he gets better. The little guy hs his perks, String Shot being able to wrap foes in a sticky web, for instance.
Up B: String Shot - A tether recovery. Caterpie blasts a sticky string from his mouth that can grab ledges. Not only can this sticky secretion pull him upward, but it can grab foes, and yank Caterpie toward them, them to him, or wrap them depending on what buttons are pushed. Towards the foe brings Caterpie in a zip straight into the enemy, backwards pulls the enemy towards Caterpie, and pressing the B button again constricts the enemy, dealing some damage. Caterpie is the only one with such mastery of the String Shot move, due to his body's ability to bend and twist accordingly. String Shot also serves as his grapple attack when pressing the R button.
B: String Wrap - Caterpie, being only able to use two moves in the game, had to get a little creative here. In the enemy it is shown that Caterpie can spray the same material as his String Shot in a manner resembling an airborn gas. He uses this ability here, only instead of wrapping himself, he sprays the foe and wraps them in sticky goo.
Smash B: Stamped Tackle - An adaptation of the standard tackle. Caterpie charges the move by holding Side B, his feet brushing up the dirt beneath them and his head loward. Releasing the button, he launches forward, kicking up much dust and dirt in his wake. His head lowered, he stampedes on the stage, ramming foes. It's difficult to turn using this attack however, so don't cruise off the stage!
Down B: Stench - According to the Pokemon Yellow Pokedex: "If you touch the feeler on top of its head, it will release a horrible stink to protect itself." What happens here is that Caterpie stands tall and shakes around a bit. A greenish-yellow gas fills the air around him. While the attack doesn't prevent against projectiles and is explosive when contacted by fire, it stuns and damages foes that enter the gas.
Special Techniques: Caterpie can use his String Shot for an extended grapple. He can also utilize the Wall-Sticking ability due to the suction cups on his feet.
[glow=yellow,2,300]METAPOD[/glow]
Metapod is the oddball of the group, with low mobility. However, he can deal some damage by swinging his hard body around. The coccoon moves around by rolling, and utilizes his String Shots not only as a grappling technique and tether recovery, but, similar to Ivysaur's use of vines, Metapod can whip and lash foes with the string! Unlike Caterpie who once he has a foe, disolves the string and grapples the foe with his many legs, Metapod uses the String Shot to grapple for him entirely, simply unwrapping foes and tossing them away, or slamming them into the ground.
Taunt Up: Leaps slightly off the ground several times while happily chanting.
Taunt: Happily sings his name.
Taunt Down: Grunts and narrows his eyes in concentration.
Stats:
Speed: 2/10
Strength: 6/10
Weight: 4/10
Height: 3/10
Jump: 2/10
Fall: 4/10
Traction: 5/10
Up B: String Shot - Almost the same as Caterpie. Metapod is incapable of using the various grapple-like techniques his prior form can. He can also not squish foes with his strings with the Up B attack anyway, it is simply a recovery.
B: Harden - Metapod's signature move. His body shines as he is encased with another layer of defense. Hardening reduces the amount of damage that Metapod takes, and increases the amount he can damage. Hardening Metapod enough can make him a deadly force that's nearly impenetrable. Hardening also makes him heavier, making it possible for him to become the heaviest character in the game. It does not reduce his mobility, so enough hardening can make the usually immobile Pokemon quite the contendor.
Smash B: String Tackle - Here's where we gotta get creative with Metty. Like I said, he can't use his Up B to ram foes like Caterpie can.. that doesn't mean he's incapabel of doing so. In fact his Side B is strictly creating a zipline from him to his foe, which he uses to slam into them, damaging heavily. Ever play paddle ball? Pulling in the opposite direction just as you impact the foe will keep the string intact, allowing Metapod to slam again and again until you miss the pull or the foe breaks free.
Down B: Shrapnel - Metapod's many layers come in handy. Not only for slamming, but this attack shatters a layer. The shards of the layer are very sharp, and can slice foes. They fall around Metapod in a dome-shape and can block all projectiles but not physical attacks. If you've used Harden, this will undo the last Harden use, if you haven't used Harden or you've abused Shrapnel so much that you've undone all your Harden's, the attack will also damage Metapod.
[glow=aqua,2,300]BUTTERFREE[/glow]
Butterfree is probably the most useful here. He has five jumps, by flapping his wings. This is all where we find out... he's a she! Butterfree displays the black dots on her lower wings, signifying her as female! Unlike her two preevolutons, she doesn't seem to utilize String Shot outside the Final Smash. Maybe it's a skill she forgot.
Taunt Up: The same as Caterpies.
Taunt: Dances in the air, cheering for herself.
Taunt Down: Lays an egg that hatches into the new Caterpie, then dies off by becoming brown and eventually turning into dust.
Stats:
Speed: 8/10
Strength: 4/10
Weight: 3/10
Height: 4/10
Jump: 6/10
Fall: 5/10
Traction: 6
As you can see, there is a dramatic increase in stats when Butterfree is finally reached. She's fast and agile.
Up B: Sleep Powder - Sleep Powder and Stun Spore are probably Butterfree's most well known attacks. She faces herself in whichever direction the player tilted, and spins in that direction. As she spins, she creates a stream, and shield, of blue sparkling sleep powder. Contact with the powder will put foes to sleep. The powder must fall off stage, making it dangerous even if it isn't directly near Butterfree.
B: Gust - Tap the B button frantically to make Butterfree flap her wings frantically. The more tap, the more flap, the bigger the mini-tornado created becomes. Finally reaching full size or releasing the B button, Butterfree uses one final powerful flap of her wings, sending the gust of wind spiraling out into the battle. The wind in it's stronger states not only damages foes, but can suck them in as well.
Side B: Psybeam - Being fooled by Butterfrees cute demeanor is a huge mistake. This attack packs a punch. She brings her head forward as her antennae glow. A magnificent beam of many color erupts from the flying insect, sending foes flying and taking heavy damage. On some occasions, the Psybeam may confuse the foes, similar to Mewtwo's side B.
Down B: Stun Spor - Butterfree's other powder attack. She vibrates herself, creating a shield of sparkly yellow specks around herself. The shield blocks all projectiles that AREN'T physical (example, she cannot block Boomerangs, but Fireballs are easily stopped.) The shield also prevents melee attacks from contacting, as the foe takes damage upon touching the powder!
Butterfree is in constant flight unless knocked down, always flapping her wings just enough to keep her slightly off the ground.
ALL
Final Smash: Super String - Nobody knows quite how the Caterpie chain became masters of the String Shot, but they are. Similar to Caterpie's side B, they spray their string in a gas-like form, only this time, it's in a huge fountain-style above their heads. Foes can become wrapped in it, platforms become wrapped in it, foes that land in it get stuck in it. It's a sticky situation for everyone but our user!
Holding R before the fight starts you off as Butterfree, holding L starts you as Metapod.
Pressing L and R really fast can evolve you (or de-evolve you) without the need to damage a foe.
Caterpie becomes Metapod after dealing 25% damage, Metapod becomes Butterfree after dealing 40% damage (combined with Caterpie's 25.)
When Butterfree returns to Caterpie, it's actually a different Caterpie. The current Butterfree lays an egg that hatches as she dies off. The new Caterpie keeps the damage of her mother.
After being KOed, you return as the evolution you were and your EXP count remains intact.
The VS mode victory is performed by the Pokemon you won as (one victory for each) or all three evolutions together.
Butterfree and Metapod are NOT displayed on the select screen, similar to how ZSS is not.
Entrance: Pokeball is tossed into the stage, which your Pokemon appears out of.
Alternate Colors:
Pink (Based on the Bye Bye Butterfree episode of the anime)
Shiney Colors
Blue Bandanna (Pokemone Mystery Dungeon style) - Blue Team
Pink Bow - Red Team
Green Party Hat, Pikachu Style - Green Team
