The Goomba of the Pokemon series, Rattata is also fairly well-known (if only because of that.) Rattata has been in every generation and has been common in every generation, and it's a very common mule. However, this Rattata is not a mule, and fights with its level-up moves. Rather, this Rattata has another fairly common strategy bound to it in its moveset.
Name: Rattata
Game: Pokemon Red/Blue
Year: 1998
Moves
Up-B: Quick Attack
Like Pikachu, Rattata jolts upwards at high speeds and may be jolted in another direction. It does this by attacking at high speeds with a lunging bite.
B: Super Fang
Rattata hops forward slightly in a bite. The longer you hold the button, the stronger the attack becomes, until it reaches a devestating force.
Side-B: Hyper Fang
Rattata leaps out in a reckless bite. If cancelled, Rattata finishes the attack instead with a non-damaging yet high-priority Tail Whip which causes them to flinch briefly, but giving Rattata an opportunity to attack.
Down-B: Crunch
Rattata does a flip. If it lands on an enemy, it bites down on their head and slams them to the ground.
A common strategy trainers may use with their Rattata is to hook it up with a Focus Sash for a very powerful technique. Indeed, this Rattata has this very technique available.
Final: Endeavor
Endeavor, at 0% damage, is a worthless move for Rattata, all that Rattata does is use Tackle. But the more damage Rattata has accumulated over the course of the battle, the more useful the attack is, and at just 20 damage, this attack is pretty painful, and at 100? Say good-bye. Rattata will leap at the foe and begin to savagely bite them until they have the same damage as Rattata (alternatively, if Rattata's got more health than the foe, he bites them until they've taken the same amount of damage as him.) He then leaps off and uses Quick Attack, finishing the move, and if the enemy is weak enough, the enemy.

Rattata is a quick, lightweight character with amazing aerial skills but poor power. Generally speaking, a Rattata player would want to use a hit-and-run strategy, using the high speed to play keep away, since Rattata can be sent flying at pretty low damages. This isn't only a fairly realistic portrayal of Rattata, it also pays homage to Rattata's annoying tendency to appear on pretty much every route you can walk on, and I'm hardly exaggerating if you think about it.
Rattata can crawl, at the normal pace of running and walking, its tail is erect and its head is held high as it moves with quick, bounding steps, when crawling, it moves slowly, as if approaching something to eat.
Up-Taunt: Rattata does a flip and squeaks "Rattata!"
Side-Taunt: Rattata bares its fangs to the camera with a growl.
Down-Taunt: Rattata gnaws at a rock until it is, with three bites, no more.
Entry: Rattata wanders out of a patch of tall grass, then eats it down.
