Hive of Doom is a part of Subspace Emissary. Red ends up in the Hive of Doom while trying to catch a Beedrill. Unfortunately, all does not go well.
Enemies
The Weedle evolutionary line: All across the level you'll find Weedles, Kakunas, and Beedrills. Weedles are a basic ground troop, like Goombas, and are therefore easy to defeat. Kakunas are mainly doors, beat them, and you can go on. Beedrills come at you in swarms to sting you repeatedly. Take them on quickly or things could get ugly.
Combee and Vespiquen: Combee serve a similar function to Weedle, only they're flying. Easy to beat, so don't worry. You'll need to really worry about the source of them: Vespiquen. They spawn the Combees that attack you as well as attack of they're own accord, and they are far greater threats than Beedrills.
Zingers: Yep. DK's bee enemies also appear in the Hive of Doom. Easy to beat? Nope. They serve the same role as Beedrills, but they have a better defense. After all, they ARE flying spike-balls, so only a projectile is safe against them.
Buzzes: And their metal counterparts. They are extremely dangerous if Squirtle's out due to the little turtle's age and size. The weaker green ones can be taken out by either of the remaining to Pokemon, but only Charizard can fight the red ones.
Grubbies: Courtesy Super Mario Land 2. Small spikey bee larva. Squirtle can't use an A attack on this little worm safely, but they can be handled by any other attack.
Bee Larva: And their not so spikey counterparts. They don't actually do anything and don't hurt you when you bump into them. In fact, you may not want to attack these at all, because a swarm of older Bee'zerks will immediately assail you.
Bee'zerk: And their older counterparts. They attack by doing a straight jab at you parallel to the ground. Though weak and light, a Bee'zerk is extremely fast, making it sometimes hard to dodge them. If you attack a Bee Larva, a swarm of them will rage from the sides like the old Beedrill Pokeball.
Fat Bee: And the Bee'zerk's larger counterparts. They serve the same purpose as Thwomps: Falling out of the sky. Only Charizard can hurt these, and even then only by use of Rock Smash.
Bunbun: Courtesy Super Mario Land are the spear-dropping bees, the Bunbuns. Like in SML, they fly overhead and drop spears.
Bosses
To get out of the hive, since all the bees have been torture already, Red and his crew need to make it to the only available exit, as the entrance is a touch too high even for Charizard's flying to reach. The result? Red and his team find a hole to freedom, unfortunately, it's blocked by two HUGE bees.
Queen B. & King Zing
These two fight you at the same time. They have six moves each for a total of twelve. To defeat them, you need to reduce their HP down to 0.
Queen B. is a swift enemy who uses her quick flying to her advantage. Like Boos in Mario Party, she doesn't actually stand, but she can still jump in a sense, flying higher temporarily. Like Charizard, she can glide. Queen B., as a Zinger, is immune to physical attacks (excepting Squirtle's Withdraw), so Withdraw, Bullet Seed, Razor Leaf, Flamethrower, and Water Gun (as the remaining moves for Squirtle and Ivysaur apparently are) are the best options. That, of course, or using the much more effective barrel spawns on either side of the arena. Pick these up and huck them at Queen B., since they're the only things that won't do half damage against her.
King Zing is slower and less skilled at flying than Queen B., but that's not to say he's any less than the Queen. Like her, he has a heightened defense against attacks and only five of your moves will work against him (Flamethrower, Bullet Seed, Razor Leaf, Withdraw, and Water Gun,) and like his Queen takes half damage regardless. Like his Queen, barrels penetrate those defenses, so like the Queen, huck them at him. Unfortunately, his attacks are stronger and he has a higher HP than the Queen.
Moves
Zinger Spin is the same for both characters: A spin upwards with the stingers out.
Zinger Attack has Queen B. calling on a Zinger to attack anyone in the way.
Zinger Stinger has King Zing shoot a stinger outwards, poisoning if it hits.
Zinger Sting has Queen B. lunge out with a sting that might poison if it hits.
Zinger Roll has King Zing roll into a ball and roll across the stage, stinging with his spikes if he hits.
Zinger Ball has Queen B. quickly roll into and unroll out of a ball to sting nearby enemies.
Zinger Jab is a downwards stab that creates a shockwave and poisons enemies if they get stung.
Sting is the same for both characters: A thrust with their butt-stingers.
Zinger Rage has Queen B. turn red and, flying up and down, attack you randomly from above.
Zinger Eruption has King Zing turn red, roll into a ball, and fire all his stingers which can be dodged easier from a distance.
After beating the two down, Red escapes with a freed character: Toad (who comes out of his bag telling him "Thank you, but the princess is...wait, you're not Mario!")
Layout: Later.
