I'd been toying around with a few ideas to make Smash more exciting than it already is. This is the biggest idea I've had: Elements. It would work similarly to Pokemon, though without immunity. Here's an example with Electricity.
Electric attacks are strong against Water characters, average against Fire characters, and weak against Ground characters. Electric characters are strong to Water attacks, average to Fire attacks, and weak to Ground attacks.
You can see a slight difference between this and the Pokemon idea already: I do not say that Electric attacks are useless against Ground characters. That's because they aren't. You can still zap DK with Thunder, it's just that DK takes less damage than Captain Falcon.
Now, the idea here is a bit of a stretch, of course, but it adds a bit of fun to the idea: While stats are still an important part of the character, for example Bowser's low mobility and high power is still in full effect, there's a new twist in that a character who is statistically screwed to another character may still stand a chance due to elements, i.e., DK could use an Earth attack to tear up Pikachu to balance out the fact that Pikachu can easily score more hits.
So, what are your thoughts?

Meh, not really, I'll have to pass on this one.

Hey, that's cool.
I want to hear other game-play change ideas, too, just to say.
